What is
Gingerbread Mania?

Gingerbread Mania is an art exhibition with only one condition - everything must be made of gingerbread. The authors of the exhibition are about 100 Estonian artists, among them architects, designers, ceramicists and visual artists. Our traditional gingerbread exhibition is one of the most popular events in Tallinn during Christmas and has been held continuously since 2006.

Visitors' favorite artwork

The 18th Gingerbread Mania 2023 “Film” is over. 70 wonderful gingerbread works made by 106 artists were exhibited at the exhibition. Here is a small photo gallery and the results of the visitors' favorite vote. We counted a total of 6,866 votes and the 20 favorite works were as follows.

The royal history
of gingerbreads

While today we know gingerbread mainly as spicy Christmas cookies, over the centuries, making and decorating gingerbread has been considered a great art. The tradition of making gingerbread goes much further back in history than is commonly thought. The heyday of making gingerbread was in the 16th-18th centuries, and they were not only related to Christmas, but were made throughout the year for various holidays.

A pinch of creativity

Why does gingerbread have to be flat and plane? The Gingerbread Mania exhibition started from this question. A little more playful thinking and a few techniques are enough to bake completely different gingerbread cookies. Baking gingerbread and the spicy sweet smell are part of every Estonians Christmas anticipation. Here you will find the main techniques to make yourself more exciting gingerbread cookies and make this Christmas even more magical.
