Gingerbread Mania 2018 Estonia

In the last month of Estonia's 100th anniversary, we invited artists to think about what makes Estonia special. Whether it is wonderful nature, distinct seasons, traditions, fairy tales, smart Estonia or something else. The exhibition was attended by 85 artists from Estonia, Hungary and the Czech Republic, who made approximately 60 unique gingerbread works inspired by Estonia.

As in previous years, visitors to the exhibition could choose their favorite work this time as well. At the 2018 Gingerbread Mania exhibition "Estonia", we counted a total of 7022 votes. The viewers' favorite work was "218 books" by Anna-Liisa Tubala and Piret Kruusandi, for which 707 votes were cast. The authors of the winning paper were inspired by a research published in the journal Social Science Research, according to which every Estonian has an average of 218 books at home, and in this aspect we are in the first place in the world without competition. The books we are all familiar with depicted in the work firmly bind us in a common network. We would like to thank all the voters and Electrolux Estonia and Dansukker, who made it even more enjoyable for the artists to bake gingerbread. All works received votes, but the most popular were:
